On 17th December 2025, pupils from 3rd and 6th Class were honoured to be invited to the official opening of the new Chapelizod Playground. This occasion was particularly special as some of our students had been involved in the consultation and planning process for the playground, sharing their ideas and opinions to help shape the final design. It was wonderful for them to see their contributions reflected in the finished project and to celebrate its official opening with the wider community.
The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the fantastic new facilities and taking part in this memorable event. The playground is a wonderful addition to the local area, providing a safe, inclusive and exciting space for children and families to play, exercise and spend time together. We are delighted to have such a valuable community resource in Chapelizod and look forward to seeing it enjoyed by local children for many years to come.
We were delighted to take part in the wonderful Nore Valley Incubator Project. This exciting 4-week programme gave our pupils a unique opportunity to witness the amazing journey from egg to chick right here in our school.
The adventure began when a batch of eggs arrived and were carefully placed in an incubator. There was great excitement throughout the school as the children eagerly anticipated what was to come. Soon after, Emma from Nore Valley visited us for Candling Week, where the eggs were checked to see if they were fertile. Thankfully, all was looking good, and the countdown to hatching began!
The children waited patiently for two weeks, learning all about the life cycle of a chick and discovering what happens inside an egg before it hatches. Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for — two adorable baby chicks hatched in our school!
The excitement was contagious as the children watched the chicks emerge from their eggs. They were thrilled to have the opportunity to hold the fluffy newcomers and observe them up close. There were lots of smiles, questions, and wonderful learning experiences along the way.
The following week, the chicks moved into their brood box, where the children enjoyed watching them run around, explore their surroundings, and grow stronger each day.
Sadly, after a week with us, it was time for the chicks to return to Nore Valley Farm, where they will continue to grow and enjoy life on the farm.
This project was a fantastic hands-on learning experience for all involved. It was wonderful to see the children's curiosity, enthusiasm, and care for the chicks as they learned about nature, life cycles, and animal welfare. It is an experience they will remember for a long time!
