Santry

On Thursday the 21st of May, students from 3rd - 6th class competed in the Cumann na mBunscol primary school athletics competition in Morton Stadium, Santry. The first events were the field events such as high jump, shot put and long jump.

George and Samantha competed in the high jump, George clearing a height of 1.15m coming in 4th place and Samantha clearing 1.10m, also coming in 4th place.

For the U14 shot put Reilly got 5th place and Sophie, despite only being 10 years old brought home our first medal, placing in 3rd.

Lia and Oscar competed in long jump. Lia came in first place with a jump of 3.22m. Oscar came in 4th place.

In between the field events Cadel and Sarah Jane ran in the U14 sprints. Cadel unfortunately got 3rd place, almost qualifying for the next race. Sarah Jane sadly didn’t qualify either :(

In the U12 the sprinters were Lily and Dennis from 5th class. Lily sadly didn’t qualify and neither did Dennis.

Ray and Hanna competed in the 600m race. Ray finished 4th after a lot of work in the second half of his race and Hanna improving from  last year, receiving a 2nd place.

We had a great win from the U12 girls relay. Marla started off the first leg doing a great job at chasing down the other competitors, delivering to Alexandrina in second place when she received the baton. Alexandrina then stretched the lead to 15 meters before passing over to Matilda R who maintained the lead on the other competitors, then passed on to Lily who heroically brought the baton over the line, coming in first place!

The U12 boys started off with Ryan who did a great handover to Dara who kept the pace up, he then passed over to Bobby and then to Dennis who carried the baton home, taking 2nd place.

The U14 girls race started off with Sarah Jane who passed to Behati. Behati raced on ahead and gave the baton to Cuinn. Cuinn made up a lot of ground passing to Sadie. Unfortunately the girls didn't qualify to  the next round coming in 3rd.

Conor started off as the first leg in the U14 relay race catching up to his competitors before passing on to Luke, who kept the pace up. After receiving the baton, Cuan put in a great  effort to get from 4th place to 2nd. He passed over to Cadel who then raced on ahead, heroically crossing the line and making it home in 1st place!

Overall, it was our most successful day in Santry. We took home 6 medals and two trophies. Mr Tierney and the teachers were delighted with our performance, the result of lots of hard work and months of training in Donore Harriers. We had a great day!
