Every March, our school proudly celebrates Seachtain na Gaeilge, a wonderful opportunity to promote and celebrate Ireland’s native language and culture in a fun, engaging, and meaningful way.
Throughout the week, pupils take part in a variety of exciting activities that encourage the use of Irish both inside and outside the classroom. Our programme is designed to foster a love of the language while creating a vibrant and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the school.
Some of the highlights of our Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations include:
Irish Dancing
Céilí Mór
Ceolchoirm
Ciorcal Cainte
Siúlóid Glas
Óga Yoga
Lá Glas
Dreolín Dance on the Yard for the Whole School
Comórtas Ealaíne
Games, quizzes, and language challenges
A particular highlight of the week is our whole-school Dreolín Dance, where pupils and staff come together on the yard to take part in a lively celebration of Irish music, dance, and tradition. This fun-filled event creates a wonderful sense of community and school spirit as everyone joins in the festivities.
Our Comórtas Ealaíne also provides pupils with an opportunity to showcase their creativity through Irish-themed artwork, celebrating our language, culture, and heritage in a colourful and imaginative way.
We encourage all children to use their cúpla focal throughout the school day and to embrace every opportunity to speak Irish with their friends and teachers. Whether through songs, games, conversations, artwork, or performances, Seachtain na Gaeilge helps bring the language to life and reminds us of the importance of preserving and celebrating our rich Irish heritage.
The week is always filled with fun, laughter, music, and community spirit, making it one of the most enjoyable events in our school calendar.
